Metchosin
November has made its way around once again and I found myself in Metchosin for another Mycoblitz. With Southern British Columbia experiencing a colder and drier than usual fall, we were unsure of what we would find in the forests around Metchosin. To our surprise and delight, there was still plenty of fungi to be found. Psilocybe pelliculosa (Conifer Psilocybe) and Auriscalpium vulgare (The Earpick Fungus) were some notable collections that made their way into our baskets. Until next year!
I had the pleasure of being invited to Vancouver Island for the annual fungal survey that is the Metchosin Mycoblitz. As usual, we had an enthusiastic group to help collect fungi. Andy MacKinnon and I led a group of about ten enthusiasts through the forest at Thunderbird Camp.
Participants of the Mycoblitz wandered through the local forests to collect fungi of all kinds.
Tricholoma zelleri.
We managed to collect all sorts of specimens including Russula xerampelina, Tricholoma zelleri, Cystoderma amianthinum, and Marasmius copelandii (smells like garlic!).
